The sheep grazing the phalaris pasture had to be supplementary fed. You can see that it is pretty flogged out.

Grazed canola on the left and wheat on the right. Grazing canola seems to have similar principles to grazing forage rape.

Back to Canberra


Yesterday I headed back to Canberra to the CSIRO. I had a very interesting day with reserchers, plant breeders and a local consultant. They are running an extensive trial on grazing canola and comparing it to wheat and pasture. All weight gains, stocking rates, dry matter production and yields are measured. Grazing canola looks like it could hopefully have a fit in our region especially once more varieties become available.
